Discover the Timeless Beauty of Our Cherished Chapels

Welcome, we take great pride in our cherished chapels. With a rich history and a profound sense of spirituality, our chapels offer a place of solace and tranquility. Each chapel has its own unique charm and significance, attracting visitors from near and far.

St Joseph’s Chapel

The St Joseph’s Chapel is Situated at Pashnithodu, Mainly known as Vellankanni Matha Chapel. In 1945, a Hindu brother got a small statue of Mother Mary carved from a tree that had been washed away during a rainy season from ‘thottum kadavu’.

He gave this statue to Pazhekatu Kunjappan and Michael’s father. They, in turn, handed it over to Pazhekat Augustine Joseph, affectionately known as ‘Ouzo Mash,’ who owned the land where Chapel stands today. On the eastern side of Ouzo Mash’s field, there was a well-watered pond and a vacant piece of land.

A thatched shed was constructed there, and a small statue of Mother Mary was placed inside. Additionally, a statue of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of Ouzo Mash, was purchased and installed. Fr Lawrence came, blessed the area, and commenced evening prayers every day thereafter.

Today, before a small altar was built, and the priests began their services in the parish church, on the 19th of March, rope company bosses and company elders assisted and provided vow porridge. When Thevankat Jose presented the statue of St. Joseph to the parish church, the tradition of celebrating the 19th of March began. In the Chapel, on the evening of the 1st of May, Mass was initiated, working tools were blessed, and offerings of porridge were distributed.

On the 1st of May, a small statue of Velankanni Matha was purchased and installed in the Chapel. On the 2nd of May, 1985, the statue of Velankanni Matha, given by Nunes Saip to the Church, continues to provide comfort to us.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

– Psalm 46 : 1 – 5
